Unable to get Flow emulator running

I am attempting to run a Flow emulator on my MacBook air in accordance with this article: How to Create NFTs Like NBA Top Shot With Flow and IPFS | by Justin Hunter | Pinata | Feb, 2021 | Medium

The smart contract runs perfectly well on the playground but when I try to run:

flow project start-emulator

It gets stuck and never starts:

Have you had any success in fixing this? Iā€™m having the same exact problem.

The log states that emulator has been started and is listening on stated ports.
What is that you expect?
